Garden Update
Monday, June 16th, 2008I have been so busy lately working in my garden, I haven’t written about it. We had some very warm weather last week, and some rain, so the garden got growing really well…so well that I had lots of weeding to do! I also planted 2 tomato plants, 1 green pepper, 1 yellow pepper and 1 summer squash plant. My first daylilly blooms were out this morning. Boo has been taking his naps in the middle of my perennial bed, so some spots are a bit flattened out.
In order to plant some of the vegetables, I had to trim down the peppermint patch. Last year, Caitlin had bought one small peppermint plant. Well I guess peppermint really likes my soil, because it is trying to take over the backyard. As I was digging some up, the rootballs were coming up with the tops, so I decided I would try transplanting it to other places. The first place I thought of was the side of the driveway next to the neighbors house. You know, the spot homeowners don’t like to do anything with, but I get to look out of my kitchen window and see! The peppermint seems to be doing well there. Tom (the last neighbor) had planted a bush there that turns bright red in the fall. I think I want to plant some kind of flowers there too, something pretty to look out the window at. The grass never did grow well there, and Tom didn’t really take care of it. Now there is no one living there and it was really getting bare.
I want to plant some more vegetables, like a green bean bush. Need to go somewhere to get it, Meijer had a HUGE amount of tomato plants, and lots of various pepper plants, but nothing else! I will also need to dig up some more beds if I get some more vegetables. Den doesn’t seem to be inclined to help me out on that. I am waiting for him to cut the grass too! Guess I’ll have to go out there and give him a nudge.
As soon as I figure out a camera set up, I will get some pictures. But for now I will put up one of last years perennial garden.
